I’m attorney Robert Geller, a consumer bankruptcy attorney in the state of Florida. Today, I want to talk to you about why it’s super easy now to file bankruptcy from home.
First of all, we provide you with a phone or video consultation. You do this anywhere you want. We set it up for you and assist you with doing it. This means you don’t need to drive to our office to meet with us. We’re able to meet with you from the comfort of your home and go through the entire bankruptcy process with you. We show you your options, give you a tour of our website, and show you where to find great information about the filing process.
Consultation
Your initial consultation also includes a lesson in signing your documents electronically, scheduling phone and video appointments to assist you with each step of the process, and help with getting your homework completed. Everyone filing for bankruptcy is assigned a bit of homeworker, but you don’t need to let it worry you. Our staff helps you get everything done.
We help you prepare and review our documents. We go through your financial information, complete your forms, and then review them with you to ensure they are complete and correct. Documents are then sent to you electronically, you sign them electronically, and return them to our office, electronically. Every step of the process can be done right from the comfort of your own home.
Not only are you able to complete your bankruptcy paperwork remotely, you also conduct court business this way, too. Any court “appearance” needed for your case are done by phone or online meeting.
Prior to the pandemic, you had to drive downtown, deal with the hassle of visiting the courthouse, and turn over personal possession like your phone when you go through courthouse security.
Now, you don’t need to worry about any of that. Your 341 meeting and any other “in-person” requirements for bankruptcy are handled by phone or online. And just as we would for a traditional court appearance, we’re by your side protecting you from creditors during the entire process. The only difference is you don’t need to leave your home. Everything else is handled the same way.
Discharge
Once your paperwork is filed, your meetings are complete, and you meet all of your other bankruptcy obligations, you wait for your discharge. Notification of discharge comes in the mail. Shortly after, you’ll receive a congratulatory phone call from us. We will begin a plan to help you rebuild your credit.
This is a virtual program to assist and teach you how to rebuild your credit so you can get back to a 720 credit score in 12-24 months.
It’s that much easier now, at least as file. Hopefully, this information makes you feel a little bit better about the process. But remember, we’re going to be there for you to help you every step of the way. If you need any help filing a bankruptcy, please call us or feel free to schedule an appointment.
